Episode 2 “Amongst Friends” Preview

How quickly the past week has gone. Tomorrow’s second episode in Season 6, “Amongst Friends” will heavily feature the GATSBY premiere and obviously a ‘friendly’ theme.
The continuation of Eric’s ‘friendly’ relationship with Sloan is set to continue, with E inviting her to the premiere. Lloyd will go on his 100 day reformation, with a crash diet program, that’ll be funny and Turtle’s love — Jamie-Lynn, will also be at the premiere but who will Vincent Chase go with? His Driving Test Teacher?!

A revealing interview with Entourage’s creator Doug Ellin has just been published by THR, interesting to note in relation to this episode is about the ongoing theme of friendship and as he says:

This year I’m going to focus less on the movie-star life and more on the surrounding guys and how their stuff may not work out.

It would be safe to say, Vince’s career will probably sky-rocket this season, and maybe the other guys will suffer a la Vinnie last season. “Amongst Friends” will unquestionably be the episode that sets the tone for the rest of this season.

And there’s also an interview that has a few revealing words on this season’s finale with Kevin Connolly saying:

Doug wrote a scene where we’re all at the airport together. Matt was all smiles. He was definitely there to have fun.

Us Magazine.com has the scoop on this, with Matt Damon (and his charity, One By One) added to the list of celebrity appearances this season, combined with LeBron James, whom both will appear at an “airport scene” in the final episode. And in other news Adrian Grenier is apparently back with his Transformer-star girlfriend — Isabel Lucas. While Kevin Connolly is looking for ‘the one’, in an intriguing look into his own life (apparently dating Nicky Hilton! and directing The Game’s new music video) thanks to USA Today.

3 Million Reasons

USA Today has reported that 3.4 million viewers tuned in for the season’s premiere.

…its biggest total since May 2007, and more than double September’s opener…

What a start! This bodes well for the rest of the season, if this continues we could be seeing it go to Season 10!?!

The New York Times posted what seems be a rather scathing attack, but as you read closer, they just seem to highlight all the things we love about Entourage. The critics seem to just blast whatever is popular to get attention — it has always been their way, and David Itzkoff from The New York Times surely got ours. With the title of the article

‘Entourage,’ So Yesterday

being eluding to the fact that he would heavily critique the show, but instead the content doesn’t really live up to the title. With quotes like this

Much about “Entourage” has stayed exactly the same…

it really cements it as attention-seeking false positive opinions, again highlighting the elements that attract us to become fans. And so what I initially thought was a serious critic, turns out to be a bit of light humor, with David Itzkoff rounding out the article exemplifying 5 “insider” jokes that appear in the episode and ending with a joke about Jeremy Piven actually turning up to work, unlike when he skipped his “Speed-to-plow” show at the Piven Theater due to mercury-poisoning. Haha… Not.
Behind the words I’m sure David really enjoyed Episode 1.

On a side note: We’re hearing whispers that Turtles is getting a Ferrari California! That must be in Episode 3 “One Car, Two Car, Red Car, Blue Car”. What the f*ck has Turtle been up to to score such a ride?! Although there are scenes shot at The California Speedway, so maybe Turtle only gets to ride one there. We’ll have to wait and see!
Mos def lookin’ forward to Episode 2 – “Amongst Friends” now!

First TV Reviews

The first reviews of the opening two episodes of season 6 are already coming through. THR’s Andrew Wallenstein critique of “Drive”, “Amongst Friends” and a scathing attack on Entourage in general seems like he is after a little bit of attention of his own — and we’ll give it to him! With quote’s like this:

The show wastes way too much time letting its core players interact with a boring collection of supporting players like Chriqui and Lee.

we wonder whether he has even watched the series? Rex Lee as Lloyd has been an amazing part of the interaction between Ari Gold and the boys, without him who would Ari turn on? Lloyd plays a role that is of great nuance to Ari Gold’s homophobic characteristics, and is even credited as a main character in Season 5.

Emmanuelle Chriqui who plays Sloan, is not as important as Lloyd, but too plays her part in creating a niche with her interactions with Eric. The relationship between Sloan and E has at times become quite vomitus, but that reaction itself plays an important part of how we see E (and we’ll be seeing more of Sloan this season: Daily News) It is therefore in total disagreement with Wallenstein that they are a “boring collection” of characters. One thing I will agree on, is if we could see more of Dana Gordon (Constance Zimmer) this season, she was a scene stealer — and one hot Entourage woman!

What I would love to see in Season 6 is more of Charlie (played by Bow Wow). When he punched Seth Green, it had to be one of my favorite scenes. Wouldn’t the tension between E and Vinnie be great to watch if Charlie had a higher-grossing movie?! Maybe even Ari could catch Charlie as a client? Spin-off series or mini-series perhaps?!

Other Critics: New York TV called this season’s first two “the depressing Entourage”, and maybe that’s where we’ll stop with the current crop of reviews — They’re depressing! This time next week we’ll be all f*ckin’ enjoying ourselves, that’s for sure!
